hello everybody ! ! ! ,
no alibi, it's been delayed for a week now, "please accept my apology" ..next month is march which is the last month of the first quarter...so there are 4quarters left after next month before our jan 17 2009 gei universal reunion... how fast the day flies ... so don't think there's enough time left .. i would like to advice everybody, most gei graduates abroad to , timely schedule your vacation "NOW" before jan 17,2009 .. local graduates working very hard preparing a ONCE IN A LIFETIME EVENT WELCOME FOR BALIKBAYAN GEI GRADUATES..SO DON'T MISSED THE FUN ! ! !
meeting was held at gei on fed 9, at 2pm... many changes,suggestions came up during the meeting, before i go further, let me "ANNOUNCE" that raffle tickets has been released, the fact that has been distributed to different batches...
FOLLOWING AGENDA HAS BEEN DISCUSSED AND PENDING, BUT SOME HAS BEEN FINAL:
1) teresita santiago-jayme suggested, in order to get thru all graduates we must meet them by 10batches each meeting (2x a month) at least minimum of 5 reps each batch must attend the meeting..until such time that all batches will be aware on all the activities on or during our jan 17,2009 reunion..
2)mrs. anita inocencio (by the way one significant gei graduates attendee during the feb9 meeting) said in charge should be assigned for every batch and later on a general meeting should be conducted..
MEETING WAS SCHEDULE FOR EACH BATCH AS FOLLOWS:
MARCH 15,2008 BATCH 47 TO 67
MARCH 29,2008 BATCH 68 TO 88
APRIL 12, 2008 BATCH 89 TO 99
APRIL 26, 2008 BATCH 2000 TO DATE..
at this point we're not expecting all these batch will attend or seriously involved on the reunion, what we're trying to to show here is to inform or invite everybody, so the orgonizers won't be blame for discrimination..
a) another significant gei graduates who's deeply involved in our reunion is robert mananquil ( who's closed to some senators like loren legarda, miriam defensor and manny villar) he suggested that lunch on jan 17,2008 should be "FREE" to all graduates.. in as much as we have more than 10litson donors..at this point i can't say yess and said, "IT REMAIN TO BE SEEN , AS TO AVAILABILITY OF OUR FUNDS" ..will final this suggestion as we get closer to our reunion..
b) another suggestion from attendees, no more gala night dinner..due to time limit..a short program before the ballroom dancing, to give way for the guest speaker.. ( an hour and a half program)
c) raffle tickets.. agreed upon each batch will be given a minimum of 10 booklets , a suggestion from mrs sampang to give incentives to each batch who can sell more than 10booklets of 1,000.00 pesos ...still pending subject for approval from the committee
d) a SECRETARIAT OFFICE was established , thru the kindness of dr and dra rolando baguinon and with the help of reil razon gei graduates too, in as much as, they have enough space where we can have emergency meeting or in case great eastern institute is not available..all donations in kinds ,where should be stored and will be the official sales office..a streamer will be posted in front of the baguinon's property for proper guidance,to buyers and graduates( tshirts,raffle,souvineers,etc) robert mananquil will help financialy for the maintenance of the secretariat office..

The Chairman Update



Dear Alumni,

It seems like yesterday when I was just a school lass, so timid but full of ideas. I was shy but armed with knowledge and positive values that my Alma Matter had taught me. I thought I was ready to conquer the world.

I began my career at Don Bosco Technical Institute as a classroom teacher. Later, I started a side job at Insular Life Insurance Company as an underwriter for thirteen years. Then, in 1985 I relocated to California, USA and began my career in the finance industry. After years of working for large national finance companies and international banks, I finally started my own real estate business in partnership with a colleague. HOWEVER, I OWE MY SUCCESS TO GREAT EASTERN INSTITUTE.

Now, semi retired, I wish to give back to the school that gave me so much. And so I have volunteered to organize the 2009 GEI universal reunion. FELLOW ALUMNI, BY PARTICIPATING IN THIS EVENT, YOU CAN GIVE BACK TOO!!!

Fellow alumni, we're now on our second quarter of the year. The time is fast approaching! By June 2008, most alumni abroad will have already scheduled their vacation for Jan. 17, 2009, and local active graduates will be in full swing, organizing this once-in-a-lifetime event.

Status Report

The housing committee is now researching all hotels available from Tarlac to Lapaz so we can get telephone numbers, email address, etc., for you to make reservations.

March 7, 2008: 62nd G.E.I. Foundation Day
Mrs. Monsod, G.E.I. principal, invited the executive officers of the 2009 G.E.I. universal reunion to join the motorcade of the said foundation. Day. Because the event fell on a working day, there were few who were able to join the motorcade (Dra. Aurora Baguinon, Aurora Salac, Ben and Julie Ronguillo, and yours truly).

The motorcade served to advertise the reunion and rally alumni for the event. To highlight the upcoming reunion, I was allowed the honor of releasing balloons and pigeons and was given a chance to talk to the crowd of GEI parents and graduates. This announcement was met with enthusiastic applause.

MARCH 9, 2008
Because of the foundation day, the committee moved the meeting on March 16, 2008, headed by executive officers of the "universal reunion/handog". Dra. Aurora Baguinon and Fred Castro and other attendees are the working committee’s chairpersons. There was a conference call from Canada by Manny Guillermo, one of administrators , Canada East (that make this meeting significant). During the meeting, most of the time was consumed on organization of each batch. Each working committees was given 5 batches each to follow up with. While I'm in California. Dra. Aurora Baguinon will take my place as overall chairman. During the meeting, among other things, that has been resolved was the guest speaker: it will not be a GEI alumni for reasons given before.

Batch reunion
Two batches attended a reunion on Easter Sunday. They are batch 2000 and 1987. We were able to help the batch organize and prepare for the coming universal reunion which they welcomed very much. Due to the fact that each batch limits visitors for privacy reasons, we also limit our organizing committee attendees. Batch 87 pledges one litson baka, were given 10 booklets of the raffle tickets, and ordered on t-shirts for all the attendees. Batch 2000 was given 10 booklets of the raffle tickets and ordered t-shirts for all the attendees. All raffle tickets distributed to each batch were as good as sold.

Easter Sunday
It was a busy Easter Sunday, aside from two batch reunions, we were able to attend two death-anniversaries. Some of the attendees are VIP GEI graduates. I was able to go around and rally and, at the same time, solicit for our "handog paaral sa kabataan.”

Agenda that has been finalized:

1) Lunch on Jan 17,2009 (after motorcade) will be “FREE”

2) Snacks on gala night "free" for everybody

Dear Alumni,

After 45 days stay in California, Now a balikbayan, Philippines (Tarlac).. It was too hectic, much occupied and short stay, though.. but lots has been accomplished both my personal business and most our universal Reunion..Was able to have meeting with some interim officers abroad and in contact with alumni in Canada, New York, Texas, Hawaii..and most was able to solicit to some of my friends, in Las Vegas and San Diego...

Didn’t realized that I've been here (Philippines) for more than a month and time for this long overdue update..i arrived may 13..I right away scheduled two meetings, June 1st, and June 15Th with executive officers headed by the Handog Paaral sa Kabataan president, Fred Castro with his Vice president Dra. Aurora Baguinon and the president of class63 Ben Ronguillo were we final our 3days activities on January 16,17,18..

Detailed and Final plan 2009 Universal Reunion:
Three (3) Days Affair:

I) January 16,2009 :
8am..7pm... Registration , Venue : GEI..
In Charge : Catherine Bruno (batch94) and members

1:00 PM till 7:00 PM .. Alumni day....Alumni (open to all) and
the graduating students 2009 inter action..It will serve as career day
for the graduating class...
In Charge:.. Manuel Guillermo and Rolando Marcos, (abroad)
Marina Gamurot and Robert Mananquil (local),the school (GEI) will be
closed for the rest of the day to give way for registrations and the
alumni and students inter action (meet and greet)

Dear Alumni,

Hello everyone. It is getting closer, in a wink of an eye, it will be our Reunion. Are you getting excited ? On September 21, we had a general meeting attended by different batches. One notable attendee was Marito Nicolas, the municipal engineer, incharge of the plaza decoration. He gave us some information on how to decorate the plaza and adviced us, the organizers, to have a meeting with the town mayor to ask for additional money (the mayor is footing the bill for plaza decoration) because the decoration is more special than the usual yearly town fiesta celebration.



I thought this meeting would be the last one until we have the actual reunion on January 2009. However, to my surprise, the four hour meeting was not enough to finalize on agenda such as alumni/student interaction, motorcade, raffle, program and host of other things. As a result, various committees and officers have decided that there would be monthly meeting from October to December. Also two weeks before the reunion, the committee on motorcade plans to go around La Paz, from north to south and east to west to announce the reunion and at the same time invite all G.E.I graduates to join us in the celebration. We have heard complaints, mostly from middle class graduates that they were not invited so Ben Ronquillo ( the committee chair) and myself came up with this idea. I suggest alumni from abroad , if you can come 2 weeks before the celebration, so that you can join us going around La Paz.

During the meeting, various committees were established such as : usherettes, food and drink distribution, decorations, raffle, registration, alumni/student interaction, souvenir book, souvenir booth. All the rest will be taken up next meeting on October 19.



" It was unanimous decision : please no alumni is allowed to bring hard liquor during the gala night, plus no alumni will be allowed to enter the plaza who is intoxicated and drinking allowed with 200 meters away from the plaza. Security will be maintained for the rest of the evening."



Also we need a rough estimates of who are attending this grand celebration so that we can prepare ahead of time for the production of T-shirts and more importantly for food preparation.



The motorcade requires a lot of time to organize. We have to know how many floats will join the parade. It was decided that any means of transportation will be considered, as long as it will not impair the flow of traffic (tricycle, pogpog, cars, kalesa, etc.)



Souvenir booths have been opened since last month and they are located at the secretariat office at Dra. Baguinon’s residence and GEI (the school) at the Vice-Principal’ s office, Marina Gamurot. T-shirts are now available for sale on both locations. We will open three souvenir booth on Nov . 1 (all saint’s day) on 3 locations : La Paz Public Cemetery, Caramutan Memorial Park and Guevara Public Cemetery to take advantage of the crowd ( both local and balikbayan) coming home that day.



The student/alumni interaction is open to all alumni. There will be a panel and will consist of alumni from different professions like medicine, nurse, architecture, engineer, nurse, politician, farmer, restaurateur, entertainer, CPA, auditor, police, military, etc. Each alumni and student will be given a name tag. Only the graduating class for the year will be invited and it will serve as a career day. There will be a very brief introduction and questions and answers period between the student and panelists. Snacks will be served.



Re souvenir book. We got a contract from Cervantes Press to print it. This will be published after the reunion. It will capture the pictures from the three day affair. Advertisements for front and back cover, inside front and inside back have all been sold out. Only ones available are the whole, half page and quarter page inside. Note : quarter page advertisement- will not be given, copy of the souvenir book.

Handog Paaral was discussed briefly by the President, Fred Castro. Attendees were briefed on screening, how many will qualify, dage of the exam, etc.,etc. It seems that a lot of attendees are very much interested in this project.



So far that’s the latest update on this « once in a lifetime event ». I would like very much everyone to hold my hands, let us unite and join me in prayers, that this reunion will be a success and peaceful one.
